Elon Musk successfully negotiated the acquisition of Twitter for 44 billion Dollars (54.20 USD per share) after a long process with the social media platform’s board of directors. This makes Elon Musk not only the CEO and owner of Tesla and the richest man on Earth but also the new owner of Twitter a major social media platform.

In a 2019 tweet Musk said that twitter could benefit from having an “Edit” option for “when you really need it” and in TED2022 April’s conference he said that he wants Twitter to have an edit function and that it will save a lot of problems.
That same month Musk put out a survey for his followers on whether they want an edit function or not. 44 million followers responded of which 74% voted yes.
Musk stated before his stance on open-source algorithm for Twitter. He tweeted “I’m worried about de facto bias in ‘the Twitter algorithm’ having a major effect on public discourse. How do we know what’s really happening?”
Previously Musk had suggested that long tweets should be allowed. A recent tweet of his stated that Twitter is long overdue for having longer tweets “My most immediate takeaway from this novella of a thread is that Twitter is *way* overdue for long form tweets!”.
In case you’re not aware Twitter has an upper limit of 280characters per tweet which was increased from 140 characters in 2017.
Previously described by Musk as “the single most annoying problem on Twitter”, it is a method used by those who want to send automated messages. In April 2022 Musk tweeted “If our Twitter bid succeeds, we will defeat the spam bots or die trying!”.
