The Eiffel Tower is one of France’s iconic monuments. Tourists from all over the world go there every year just to take pictures in front of the tower. The Eiffel Tower is a 324 metres wrought iron lattice tower built by Gustav Eiffel in just two years between 1887 and 1889 and is considered one of the most iconic touristic sites worldwide.
It’s enough to know that the tower receives 6 million visitors each year but currently the tower is in need of serious renovations due to accumulated rust.
At the moment the tower is in need of major renovation due to rust. According to Marianne magazine the plan is to finish the renovation before the 2024 Olympics taking place in Paris.
Official reports state that the Eiffel Tower is in need of a €60 million job which includes removing several layers of old paint and a lot of rust. This would mark the 20th paint job that the tower receives.

The reason of course is due to COVID-19 which caused major delays in removing the old paint and dealing with the accumulated rust.
According to Marianne magazine a third of the tower was supposed to be stripped down with two new layers of paint added afterwards. However the presence of lead in the old paint layers mean that only about 5% will be treated.
The managing company of the tower the Société d’Explotation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE) is reluctant to close the tower for a long period of time due to the expected loss in revenue.
